All the info

What should I wear?

Red Barn Gardens is, in fact, a barn and gardens (and a greenhouse and beautiful rolling fields). Please dress as your most authentic fabulous self while keeping in mind that weather in VT likes to play tricks, and we will be frolicking on uneven earth. We don’t want anyone to roll their ankle. Alternatively, you’re welcome to dress like Sophie and Nathan on an average day- grass stains and dirty work pants welcome!

Where should I stay?

The venue and our home is within 25 minutes of Burlington and just a few minutes from Williston center, both of which have many hotels- Courtyard Marriott is the closest to us and the venue. We are also compiling a list of local folks and neighbors who have rooms and guest houses to rent. AirBnB is an option, but please let us know if you would like us to put you directly in touch with someone to rent from and avoid the fees.

We also have camping available at our house- plenty of open space in the yard! Pitch your tent as close to the beehives as you dare! Someone can sleep in the hoophouse if they don’t mind the smell of late-season tomato plants! We have extra camping equipment if needed, just ask. Please fill out this form (second tab in the spreadsheet) if you plan on camping with us.

Please be aware that our party is at the very beginning of leaf peeping season, so book your accommodations soon! Let us know if we can help you get situated for the weekend.

What should i do in Vermont?

We hope you will spend the whole weekend with us! Vermont in early Fall is something to behold. Scroll down for a list of our favorite activities and special spots.

Where’s the registry?

Your presence at our party is the greatest gift you could give us! If you would like to make a monetary contribution, we would love if you would donate to one of the following that are dear to our hearts:

  • ROSE CORE COLLECTIVE is the herbal mutual aid group that Sophie belongs to. Since 2020, they have been growing, making and distributing free herbal medicine around the country and throughout Vermont to sites of resistance and resilience. Rose Core HQ is also in Sophie and Nathan’s basement! They just became fiscally sponsored through Community Resilience Organizations, so you can make a tax deductible donation through them, with a note for Rose Core.

  • RICHMOND FREE LIBRARY is our local library! Getting our library cards was the FIRST thing we did when we moved to Richmond. Sophie recently joined their ad-hoc volunteer gardening committee. Library funding is always at risk, and this little library means a lot to our town! If you donate, we would love if you would do so in memory of CJ Smith, high school librarian and Sophie’s mom, the person who taught her about the power of libraries as sites of community connection and power.

lOOKING for a good time in Vermont?

Here are some of our recommendations for what to do and eat nearby:

Nature Walks and Hikes

  • Birds of Vermont Museum: A one-of-a-kind gem with a collection of hand carved wooden birds, tons of avian info, and beautiful walking trails. Conveniently located adjacent to the Audubon Center of Vermont, which has additional walking trails to explore.

  • Preston Pond Loop: An easy hike with breathtaking views at Libby’s Lookout. Way easier than Camel’s Hump, which will probably be packed this weekend but is worth the climb if you’re looking for a more strenuous hike with killer views.

  • Intervale Center trails: Home to Nathan’s People’s Farm, some of our favorite farms, and wide flat trails to stroll along the Winooski river.

  • Catamount Outdoor Family Center : Over 20 miles of walking, trail running and mountain biking just down the road!

  • Johnnie Brook Trail: a little 1 mile stroll that starts right outside our door!

  • ECHO Center is the aquarium right on the Burlington waterfront that’s all about Lake Champlain’s ecosystems and history! Cool fish!

Food and Drink

  • If it’s still warm out, get yourself a maple creemee! Big Spruce is closest to our house, Red Hen in Middlesex makes the best, and Burlington Bay is a classic waterfront spot.

  • In Richmond, Sweet Simone’s is the local hot spot for fancy coffee, killer pastries, and Italian style sandwiches midday. Always crowded, always fun!

  • Pretend you’re Sophie and Nathan meeting up after a long day at work, and grab a flight of beers and a basket of fries at Burlington Beer Co. (conveniently located next to Zero Gravity, Switchback, and Citizen Cider if you are the pub crawling type!)
